Yesterday starwars.com teased something comicbook-wise from Marvel featuring an image of Boba Fett by artist Steve McNiven.
The image featured the infamous bounty hunter Boba Fett with a blaster pistol and spear with the tagline “Boba Fett…Nowhere to Hide.” The article also mentioned more would be revealed today, and it has.
Turns out the teaser was for a new Marvel comics crossover event and miniseries. This isn’t the first Star Wars comic crossover event from Marvel (see Vader Down and Screaming Citadel), but it is the first to take place post-The Empire Strikes Back. The story pitch from writer Charles Soule explains what happened with Boba Fett and his Han Solo shaped prize between capture and delivery to Jabba the Hutt and is titled War of the Bounty Hunters.
Soule provides this description of the event:
“The main story that we’re dealing with is a Boba Fett-focused crime epic, that involves Boba Fett going up against some of the heaviest hitters in the galaxy. It’s Jabba the Hutt. It’s Black Sun. It’s Darth Vader. And a bunch of others — factions and so on — that I think will be really interesting for the fans” … “It’s basically Boba Fett, by himself, against all of these people.”
As it is with Marvel, the crossover will start with a solo issue titled War of the Bounty Hunters Alpha #1 by writer Soule and artist McNiven out post Star Wars Day on May 5.
The story continues in Star Wars #13 on May 12, by Soule and artist Ramon Rosanas:
Followed by Star Wars: Bounty Hunters #12 written by Ethan Sacks with art by Paolo Villanelli on May 19:
Next up is Star Wars: Darth Vader #12 by writer Greg Pak and artist Guiu Vilanova on May 26:
On the same day as Darth Vader, Star Wars: Doctor Aphra #10 by writer Alyssa Wong and artist Ray-Anthony Height will conclude the crossover portion of the tale:
Then starting in June will be a five-issue War of the Bounty Hunters mini-series by Soule and artist Luke Ross which should conclude in October.
