Even before the Willow streaming series was confirmed, Jon M. Chu was revealed as the director for the pilot. Unfortunately, due to timing issues, Chu stepped down from the project in early January. Well, the good news is, it’s The End of the F***ing World director Jonathan Entwistle has stepped in to take Chu’s place so it won’t be the end of the world for the pilot.
Entwistle will also be executive producing the show alongside Jonathan Kasdan and Wendy Mericle. The new director had a statement about his new role:
“With its epic world of swords, sorcery and adventure, Willow captivated and influenced so many” … “I’m excited to be going on this journey and working with Jon and Wendy to create something that is both deeply rooted in that original film and also a fresh, funny and charming addition to the beloved story. To be able to play within the world so painstakingly crafted by Ron [Howard] back in ’88 is a dream come true for me.”

The pilot is expected to start shooting this Spring, though the UK is still in pandemic restrictions at the time of this writing. From the looks of things, it pays to have the name Jon for this project. Lucasfilm now hopes that fans will not be repeating the title of Entwistle co-creation “I Am Not Okay With This”.
