Wonder Woman 1984, the sequel to the Wonder Woman movie, opened on Christmas Day in theaters and on HBO Max, and it seems like it was a success. While a third Wonder Woman film was in development, according to director Patty Jenkins, it was on pause and the dual home and theatrical release put Jenkins’ involvement in doubt.
Well, like Wonder Woman 1984, that’s all in the past. It’s now being reported that Wonder Woman 3 is greenlit, and with director Patty Jenkins and star Gal Gadot onboard. Warner Bros. has committed to the third film having a theatrical release. Toby Emmerich, Warner Bros. Pictures Group chairman confirmed the news:
“As fans around the world continue to embrace Diana Prince, driving the strong opening weekend performance of ‘Wonder Woman 1984,’ we are excited to be able to continue her story with our real life Wonder Women — Gal and Patty — who will return to conclude the long-planned theatrical trilogy.”
It’s not clear when the third Wonder Woman film will land. Jenkins and Gadot are also working on a Cleopatra film, and Jenkins has the Star Wars Rogue Squadron film supposedly coming out Christmas 2023.
