Game Of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are set to butcher an adaptation of Liu Cixin’s acclaimed alien invasion epic The Three Body Problem at Netflix.
The duo, who rushed the end of Game Of Thrones in order to work on Star Wars before walking off the project, are teaming with True Bloods’s Alexander Woo on the adaptation.
The Three Body Problem portrays an alternate history where the Earth is awaiting an invasion from the closest star system, which in this universe consists of three solar-type stars orbiting each other in an unstable three-body problem, with a single Earth-like planet unhappily being passed among them and suffering extremes of heat and cold, as well as the repeated destruction of its intelligent civilizations.
The book debuted in 2008 to critical acclaim in China, while an English translation by Ken Liu became the first Asian novel ever to win a Hugo Award for Best Novel in 2014.
Cixin and Liu will serve as consulting producers on the project. Other executive producers on the project include Bernadette Caulfield, Rian Johnson, Brad Pitt, and Rosamund Pike.
