First Look & Voice Cast Revealed for ‘Batman: Soul of the Dragon’ Animated Movie!

It feels kind of weird being halfway into 2020, and only knowing of a single DC Comics animated film for next year. Yet, here we are and the first preview picture for said film has arrived (courtesy of the Hollywood Reporter). Dang this feels weird, but I can’t help but confess the news from this one, Batman: Soul of the Dragon, has me hyped for it.

Batman: Soul of the Dragon will be an animated movie where Batman faces something from his past, but will find help with three comrades: Richard Dragon, Ben Turner, and Lady Shiva. Though the tale is not a straight up adaptation. The first look image of the movie, tells you already what to expect: a love-letter to the 70s comics of Dennis O’Neill (he wrote both Batman and Richard Dragon: Kung-Fu Fighter):

If that was icing on the cake, then the next reveal voice cast and who’s involved is truly the cherry topping to this delicious cake. Michael Jai White and Kelly Hu will be reprising their roles of Ben Turner (White played the character in live-action on the TV series Arrow) and Lady Shiva (Hu voiced the character in Batman: Arkham Origins video-game). Rounding out the cast will be David Giuntoli (Bruce Wayne/Batman), Mark Dacascos (Richard Dragon), James Hong (O-Sensei), and Josh Keaton (Jeffrey Burr).

Bruce Timm will be executive producing with DC animated movie mainstay Sam Liu directing the film.  Jeremy Adams, will be writing the script for the movie (Adams seems perfect for this as he also wrote the script to this year’s brutal animated movie Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge).

The movie will be released on digital, Blu-Ray, and DVD in early 2021 (aka early January for digital release, late for DVD/Blu-Ray).
