The most electrifying man in sports and entertainment Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has purchased the XFL from WWE Chairman Vince McMahon. The $15 million purchase kept the league from going into bankruptcy.
The original XFL was a professional football league founded by McMahon that only played one season in 2001. NBC and the WWF both lost $35 million on their $100 million investment in the inaugural season.
A re-imagined XFL played its first season in 2020, which didn’t rely on professional wrestling-inspired features and entertainment elements as its predecessor did. The league suspended operations in March 2020 after five weeks of play due to Coronavirus.
The Rock previously played football at the University of Miami. After an NFL career didn’t pan out, he became The People’s Champion in the WWF and later the WWE.
