Three months ago, we reported that at that time, both the James Cameron Avatar sequel and the next Star Wars movie, were still on track to debut in 2021 and 2022 respectively. Well, it looks like that in these pandemic times, that was destined to change as well. Variety is reporting that both films, as well as their sequels, are being pushed back a year.
So now, Avatar 2 will debut on December 16, 2022, with its sequels following in December 20, 2024, December 18 2026, and December 22, 2028. The next Star Wars trilogy will now launch on December 22, 2023, followed by its sequels on December 19, 2025, and December 17, 2027 (Star Wars’ 50th anniversary year).
The live-action Mulan, which got bumped to August 21 during the pandemic, has now mysteriously disappeared from the release calendar. However, the article noted (for our intrepid reporter Zechs no doubt), that The New Mutants still apparently will release on August 28.
