New ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Animated Film In The Works From The Minds Behind “Sausage Party”

In the animated world, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were usually portrayed as pizza-lovin’ rowdy boys. Well, they might be adding more of the teenage experience to those turtles: hormones. Actually, we have no idea if they are doing that, but Nickelodeon recently announced that they have a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated film in the works and they are teaming up with Point Grey Pictures (Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and James Weaver) to do it. Point Grey Pictures are responsible for the rather raunchy animated film, Sausage Party, so we figure that might be the direction they might head (not really).

The upcoming film will be CG animated, a first ever for Nickelodeon Animation Studio, but not the first all-computer generated film for the franchise (which would be 2007’s TMNT when the franchise was with Warner Bros.). The film will be directed by Jeff Rowe and written by Brendan O’Brian. No release date for the film was announced.

The new film, dubbed the “next chapter” of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is separate from a different 2D animated film announced, based on their current Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles television series. We’ll see if our TMNT reviewer Zechs will have recovered from the last Turtles film by the time this comes out.
