Last Fall, Marvel and Games Workshop announced a partnership to produce comics based on Games Workshop’s Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000 tabletop games. At the time, no details were provided about which story would be featured in the comics, but today the first project has been revealed: Warhammer 40,000: Marneus Calgar. For those not familiar with the Warhammer 40K universe, Calgar is a Chapter Master of the Ultramarines Space Marines Chapter. In other words, he is one of the top guys fighting for the Emperor of Mankind and Imperium of Man, fighting against the other factions in this grim galactic future.
The comic will:
“… tell Marneus Calgar’s never-before-told origin story – from his beginnings on the world of Nova Thulium, his campaigns in the Black Crusades, and to the unfolding mystery of the Black Altar as a deadly threat from his past reemerges to threaten the present of the Ultramar system.”
Warhammer 40,000: Marneus Calgar will be written by Kieron Gillen and have art by Jacen Burrows. The title will invade comic shelves in October.
