Sony held an event today finally revealing the look of the next PlayStation console, the PlayStation 5 (PS5) along with some of the games that will be coming to it. This wasn’t the first new about the PS5, the guts of the system being discussed last April, but today was the first look at the design of the console itself:
The console will come in two flavors, one with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive, and one that will not have a disc drive. As mentioned, a bunch of games were also announced for the PS5, with one in particular being of interest to comic book fans: Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Back in 2016, Sony announced Marvel’s Spider-Man for the PlayStation 4, which would launch in 2018 to great success. For this announcement, the date of launch is planned to not be years away, but this year, holiday 2020. While Marvel’s Spider-Man featured a version of Peter Parker, this follow-up will feature the previous resident of the Ultimate Universe Miles Morales. No in-depth information about the game were detailed, but it will be made by the same group that made the previous Spider-Man game, Insomniac Games, who are now owned by Sony. A short teaser trailer was shown off for the game:
Both the PlayStation 5 and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales are expected in stores holiday 2020.
It looks like Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is an expansion to the original Marvel’s Spider-Man game.
Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Simon Rutter clarifies:
I guess you could call it an expansion and an enhancement to the previous game” … “There’s a substantial Miles Morales component—which is the expansion element—but also within the game as well there’s been major enhancements to the game and the game engine, obviously deploying some of the major PlayStation 5 technology and features.”
