The saga of humanity versus giant human eating titans is coming to its animated end. We found out that Attack On Titan would be getting its fourth and final season last Summer, then scheduled for Fall 2020. Overnight, NHK (broadcaster of the anime in Japan) and the Japanese Attack on Titan (known as Shingeki no Kyojin in Japanese) YouTube channel began streaming the trailer for the final season of the show. Notably, the animation studio behind the first three seasons of the show, WIT Studio, have been replaced by MAPPA. MAPPA (Maruyama Animation Produce Project Association) was established in 2011, and worked on such shows as Kids on the Slope, the Garo series, and Dorohedoro.
Here’s the trailer (sorry only in Japanese):
The official website also tweeted out a visual for the final season:
The updates did not reiterate that the final season would start in the Fall. Hopefully it still will, but with the current pandemic still active, it would be understandable if it were to be delayed. It was also not confirmed that the show would head West (via Funimation and Crunchyroll) as previous seasons did, but we would be surprised if it didn’t.
It was also announced that Japan would get compilation film recapping seasons 1-3 starting July 17. The film will feature new narration from the show’s main characters (Eren Yeager, Mikasa Ackerman, and Armin Arlert).
