Star Wars Day, May the 4th, brought news of a new Star Wars feature film being developed with Taika Waititi at the wheel, and confirmation of a new Star Wars Disney+ series with Leslye Headland at the helm. However, that was not the only Star Wars news for the day.
The first original Star Wars live-action series The Mandalorian, wrapped it’s first season late last year, and has finished filming on its second season with a third season on the way. Since the third season is probably still only in pre-production, we’re guessing this news applies to the second season of The Mandalorian, but two new directors have been added to the stable for the series: Payton Reed and Robert Rodriguez. Both announced their involvement with the show via social media.
Payton Reed is used to directing guys with helmets, mostly known to genre fans as the director on Ant-Man and Ant-Man and the Wasp, and is slated to direct the third installment on the series as well.
Robert Rodriguez can draw from his experience on the El Mariachi series of films, or Once Upon a Time in Mexico for The Mandalorian… or maybe Spy Kids? Perhaps he can put Cara Dune up against Alita Battle Angel in Sin City…
We’ll see if those two show up in the credits when The Mandalorian starts its second season on Disney+ in October.
