Last Summer Marvel announced a whole slew of new movies for its next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe including the Doctor Strange sequel Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Unfortunately, along the way, the film lost its director, Scott Derrickson, due to the dreaded creative differences. Last month though, there were some rumblings of a new director in his stead: Sam Raimi.
While there is not a confirmation that the director of the early 2000 Spider-Man movies will be onboard to direct the next Doctor Strange movie, there is confirmation that he is at least involved in the film. While talking with ComingSoon.net about a line in Spider-Man 2 referencing Doctor Strange, Raimi said this:
“… when we had that moment in Spider-Man 2 I had no idea that we would ever be making a Doctor Strange movie, so it was really funny to me that coincidentally that line was in the movie. I gotta say I wish we had the foresight to know that I was going to be involved in the project.”
So there it is. Raimi confirms he is involved with the Doctor Strange movie… though he did not come out and say he was directing it. We’ll have to wait a bit more before we hear he will be sitting in that director’s chair.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is scheduled to be unleashed on its new date of November 5, 2021.
