Last May, the director of the 1988 film Willow, Ron Howard, said that a follow up to that film is “in serious discussions” for Disney+. Earlier this month Solo: A Star Wars Story co-writer Jon Kasdan, hinted that something Willow was brewing on his social media:
Now Howard is confirming that the Willow series is in development, but it has not received a green light by the powers that be yet:
“We are developing Willow for Disney Plus” … “And I don’t know about directing or not, but Jon Kasdan is writing, he’s very passionate about it, great job. We don’t have a green light yet, but if it goes, I’ll certainly want to roll up my sleeves and be a part of that, because that would be great, to revisit that world.”
Howard also mentioned that Willow star Warwick Davis is onboard for the project and that since he is involved, the show will take place some decades after the original story.
We’ll see if anything comes of this. No word of when we’ll get an announcement, though Disney is set to have a Q1 earnings call, and sometimes projects are spilled during those calls.
