Marvel‘s April 2020 previews so far have featured a few Black Widow-related titles so far, but one might wonder, how about a solo Black Widow series? Well, fear not. Marvel knows that a Black Widow solo movie is arriving in May (and even had a Marvel Cinematic Universe comic teasing it), and they aren’t going to let an opportunity to launch a new #1 go by.
Black Widow #1 will launch in April 2020 written by Kelly Thompson, with art by Elena Casagrande, and a cover by Adam Hughes. Kelly says that the comic will focus on the duality of Natasha Romanoff, aka. the Black Widow and her struggle with and acceptance of it. The first issue has a group of villains, not always associated with the Widow, allying with the intend to destroy her. Like the movie, the book will also have appearances by Yelena Bolova and the Red Guardian.
Here’s the Marvel solicitation text for the first issue:
Bestselling Eisner-nominated writer Kelly Thompson (CAPTAIN MARVEL; DEADPOOL) and rising star artist Elena Casagrande (CATWOMAN) launch a new BLACK WIDOW series that changes everything!
