Taika Waititi has become a well-known name after pumping new energy into the Thor movie franchise after directing (and having a cameo in) Thor: Ragnarok. With the Waititi-directed follow-up, Thor: Love and Thunder due out in 2021, and a possible Akira adaption, Waititi doesn’t seem to be lacking in things to do. Well, it looks like Disney/Lucasfilm might have one more thing to do…
Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Waititi has been approached by the powers that be about devloping a Star Wars film. It’s unknown where those talks are at the moment, be apparently he has been asked. Waititi isn’t a complete stranger to the Star Wars franchise, having directed the season finale of the Disney+ series The Mandalorian, and voice-acted in two of the show’s episodes. It is also unknown if this is related at all to the plans that Marvel creative and Marvel Cinematic Universe mastermind Kevin Feige has for Star Wars.
If Waititi agrees to put his weight behind a Star Wars film, it might help ease the gap that Benioff & Weiss left when they exited their Star Wars movie project.
We’ll see if this rumor bears any fruit, but hey Waititi, if you do make a Star Wars film, can you add the Kronan species to that galaxy far, far away?
