It looks like Doctor Strange has more to deal with than Dormammu, Nightmare, or D’Spayre. It is being reported that the director of the first movie Scott Derrickson, is stepping down from its sequel, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. To what can we blame for this most tragic of events? The dreaded “creative differences” of course.
Though unfortunate, it seems like things aren’t totally destroyed between Derrickson and Marvel as Derrickson is staying on as executive producer for the movie. Marvel also put out a statement to Variety about the parting of ways:
“Marvel Studios and Scott Derrickson have amicably parted ways on ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ due to creative differences” … “We remain grateful to Scott for his contributions to the MCU.”
Derrickson also confirmed the departure:
We’ll see how this affects the movie’s May 7, 2021 release date. It is also unknown if this ties in to the rumor that the sorcerer would be appearing in the Disney+ series WandaVision which was recently announced to arrive earlier than previously announced. We’ll just have to wait and see.
