Earlier this month, Marvel announced their Spring event comic Empyre. That announcement was done in a cheeky way, having any information bleeped out, thus not revealing much at all. The only information provided was that it would be “Earth-shattering” and would spin out of their Incoming! one-shot.
Well, Incoming! came out last week and now we have a little idea about what Empyre will be about. *SPOILER* In the one-shot, the murder victim turns out to be a Kree who was working with a Skrull, preparing Earth for an invasion. We also find out there is a whole lot of Kree and Skrulls in space united under the leadership of Dorrek VIII, aka. Hulkling once a member of the Young Avengers.
Since Incoming! has arrived, Marvel has spilled a little more information about Empyre. Empyre will be an Avengers and Fantastic Four event (and of course also feature the Kree and Skrull). Although details are still a little sparse, Executive Editor Tom Breevort says:
“Empyre grows out of a number of classic, key Marvel stories, including the Kree-Skrull War, the Celestial Madonna Saga, the origin of the Young Avengers, and a bunch of others. It is the touchpoint for so many things that have been established throughout Marvel history.”
Empyre will be written by Al Ewing and Dan Slott, with art by Valerio Schiti and will release in April 2020.
Marvel released an updated trailer with less bleeped out:
