Disney appears to want get as much money from the remaining movies from Fox before the merger occurred. Last night, it was announced that the King’s Man, prequel to 2014 film (and third movie of the franchise) has been pushed back seven months from it’s original February 14, 2020 release date. Instead, the movie will now be coming out on September 18, 2020.
The move feels more in line with prior releases of the franchise (prior movies of the franchise came out in the fall). On the plus, at least this isn’t a G.I. Joe: Retaliation situation where the movie was pushed back an entire year with only a few weeks from release.
This also isn’t the only Fox film Disney has meddled with. Earlier this week the House of Mouse, yanked a Bob’s Burgers movie from its July 17, 2020 release date. The show creator, Loren Bouchard, had said this about the abrupt film being pulled on Twitter:
So that does sound encouraging and it sure as heck doesn’t look like a New Mutants situation (Will the final Fox mutant movie EVER be released? It’s been four years Disney. Just release it already!). These two films are also not the only Fox films DIsney has mucked around the release date as well. Two other animated movies , Ron’s Gone Wrong and Nimona were also delayed with new releases in February 26, 2021 and January 14, 2022.
On the plus side, this so does help Birds of Prey and Bloodshot (two other comic book films) that are coming out in February 7th 2020 (BoP) and February 21, 2020 (Bloodshot).
