Jon Favreau has launched the first live-action Star Wars series, The Mandalorian, on Disney+. With that success, what else lies in Favreau’s Star Wars future? Well, there is a second season of The Mandalorian, but perhaps there might be something more bizarre on the way.
Back in 1978, the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special aired on CBS. It aired only once, but the cheesiness of the show, which incorporated celebrity guest stars and musical numbers, made it the subject of jokes and some disdain. Despite its poor reputation, Favreau has a soft spot for the show and several references to the special are present in The Mandalorian (reference to Life Day, and the weapon the animated Boba Fett carried resembles The Mandalorian’s signature weapon).
When asked about resurrecting the Star Wars Holiday Special by Variety, Favreau said:
“Oh I would definitely be interested in doing a holiday special…”
Not only is he interested, he sounds like he has someone in mind to be in it and he is “ready” to do it:
“And I’m not going to say who I would be interested in. But one of the people is the member of the cast in an upcoming episode of the show. So we’ll leave it at that for now.”
“I’ve been thinking about it. It’s ready, the ideas are ready. I think it could be really fun.”
What do you think? Is the galaxy ready for another Star Wars Holiday Special?
