Hungarian Composer’s Estate Suing Marvel Over X-Men: The Animated Series Theme

Zoltan Krisko, a representative from the estate of the late Hungarian composer Gyorgy Vukan, has filed a copyright lawsuit against Marvel Entertainment, The Walt Disney Company, and more, claiming that the theme song for X-Men: The Animated Series was based on the theme for Linda, a Hungarian cop show.

Linda ran from 1984 to 1991 in Hungary and X-Men: The Animated Series ran from 1992 to 1997. The X-Men theme is credited to composer Ron Wasserman in 1992, while Vukan’s Linda theme was copyrighted in 1983.

Krisko says he didn’t learn of the X-Men series until 2017 and the lawsuit claims that “all the success the [X-Men: The Animated Series] franchise achieved for Marvel and many other companies is a result of that iconic [song] and, as he claims, stolen theme song.”
