Todd Phillips’ Joker released last week to a record-breaking $96 million box office weekend. The movie stars Joaquin Phoenix as The Joker, Batman’s long-time arch-nemesis. Phillips gave an interview to The LA Times recently, where he talked about not knowing if The Joker in the movie Joker is actually The Joker. Possible spoiler ahead.
“Maybe Joaquin’s character inspired the Joker,” Phillips said. “You don’t really know. His last line in the movie is, ‘You wouldn’t get it.’ There’s a lot going on in there that’s interesting.”
Don’t expect Phillips to elaborate on it in any further films, as he doesn’t see himself making a sequel.
“We would never do that,” he said. “No, no. We’d just want to see where he goes from there.”
Joker stars Joaquin Phoenix as the titular character, Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, and Frances Conroy. Directed by Todd Phillips, the R-rated movie released October 4.
