Last month, negotiations between Sony and Disney fell apart regarding Spider-Man’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Disney wanted their split of the Spider-Man profits to jump from 5% to 50%, while Sony did not want that. Fans took to the internet to start petitions getting angry at Sony for taking their beloved Spider-Man out of “their” movie franchise. Because when it comes down to Disney throwing their weight around, all fans care about is making Disney more money.
This week, deals were renegotiated which will allow Kevin Feige to produce a third Spider-Man movie. In exchange, Disney will now get 25% of the box office profits, while also retaining all merchandise rights. Which is good, because I was worried for Disney’s shareholders for a second.
Additionally, Spider-Man will appear in a future Marvel Studios film.
The third Spider-Man film is set to release July 16, 2021.
