Steven S. DeKnight has stepped down as showrunner on Netflix’s Millarworld’s Jupiter’s Legacy, the adaptation of the comic of the same name by Mark Millar and Frank Quitely. DeKnight’s split might go deeper as sources are saying he’s looking to get out of his overall deal with Netflix, which is set to expire in 2020. Four episodes, out of eight, are already completed.
Jupiter’s Legacy follows the world’s first generation of superheroes who received their powers in the 1930s. Now, in present day, they are the revered elder guard, but their super-powered children struggle to live up to the legendary feats of their parents. The cast includes Josh Duhamel, Ben Daniels, Leslie Bibb, Elena Kampouris, Andrew Horton, Mike Wade, and Matt Lanter.
DeKnight was previously the showrunner on the first season of Netflix’s Marvel’s Daredevil, creator of Spartacus, and writer and director of various episodes of Angel, Smallville, and Dollhouse. He was also writer and director of Pacific Rim: Uprising.
