Japanese horror manga master Junji Ito held a live drawing session at this weekend’s Crunchyroll Expo. During the session anime production company Production IG‘s CEO Maki Terashima announced that Ito’s manga Uzumaki would be getting an animated adaptation.
Uzumaki involves a town that is cursed with events involving spirals, and whose residents become obsessed with spirals. The town becomes enveloped with spiral phenomena, causing suffering and death. The 1998 manga was adapted into multiple games and a live-action movie in the year 2000.
The animated adaptation will be directed by Hiroshi Nagahama and will debut in 2020 on the Adult Swim programming block of Toonami, ahead of its broadcast in Japan.
