Andy Serkis has worn many hats in Hollywood and is stepping up his directing game as he’s set to take on the Venom sequel. Ruben Fleischer, director of the first film, couldn’t take on the sequel as he’s on post-production on Zombieland: Double Tap.
The Venom sequel will see the return of Tom Hardy as the titular character. The first film grossed $213 million domestically and $855 million worldwide on a budget of between $100-$116 million.
Serkis is best known as the go-to motion capture guy in Hollywood, playing Gollum in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Caesar in the new Planet of the Apes trilogy, and King Kong in King Kong. He served as second unit director on The Hobbit movies, before making his directorial debut on 2017’s Breathe. His most recent directorial project was 2018’s Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle.
Venom 2 doesn’t have an official release date but Sony has reserved October 2020 as a release date for an untitled Marvel film.
