The “Official” 2019 Star Trek Las Vegas Convention has begun, and the publishing panel has already produced some news. The upcoming streaming series Star Trek: Picard will be getting a number of prequels that are not Star Trek: The Next Generation.
First off, IDW will be publishing a three-issue mini-series titled Star Trek: Picard – Countdown. The mini-series will run from November 2019 to January 2020 and is being written by Mike Johnson and Picard series Supervising Producer Kirsten Beyer. Not much more was revealed about the title aside from the tidbit that “This countdown event centers around a mission that would go on to change the life of beloved Star Trek captain Jean-Luc Picard”.
In February 2020, Simon & Schuster Gallery Books will release the novel The Last Best Hope. The novel, by Una McCormack, will “continue to introduce fans to brand new characters featured in the [new Picard] series”.
Star Trek: Picard will start streaming on CBS All Access in early 2020.
