Amazon has been working on its multi-season Lord of the Rings series since 2017 and the network is already expanding the universe with an MMORPG. The game is set in Middle-earth as “portrayed in The Lord of the Rings literary trilogy,” by J. R. R. Tolkien.
Amazon Game Studios is developing the game, which will release on PC and consoles, with Leylou Technologies and Middle-earth Enterprises. The project is being led by veterans from games including Everquest, World of Warcraft, and Planetside.
This isn’t the first MMO set in Middle-earth as Turbine Inc released The Lord of the Rings Online in 2007. The game is currently free to play, with its last content update in October 2018.
