X-Men: Dark Phoenix is set to release this Friday and early signs aren’t looking too good. The movie currently sits at a whopping 21% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is the lowest-scoring X-Men film. The last attempt to film the Dark Phoenix Saga was in 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand, which wasn’t well reviewed and currently sits at 58% on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie ended up being retconned in 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past.
For comparison, X-Men Origins: Wolverine has a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 37%.
Rolling Stone’s Peter Travers said about the film:
Sophie Turner shows enormous potential as super-mutant Jean Grey, but this botch job doesn’t just suck big time, it’s the worst movie ever in the X-Men series.
Directed and written by Simon Kinberg, Dark Phoenix stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Holt, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Evan Peters, and Jessica Chastain.
