Vanity Fair Covers ‘Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker’

Like Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi before it, Vanity Fair has coverage of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker shot by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz. Along with many behind the scenes photographs, there are smatterings of information about the final chapter of the Skywalker Saga in the numerous articles at the Vanity Fair website, and later in their print magazine.

Again, like the previous movies, the film gets the cover of Vanity Fair by Leibovitz:

Vanity Fair Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker cover #2 featuring Kylo Ren (Adam Driver)

The main draw for the coverage is, of course, the photos by Leibovitz which show the actors and crew behind the scenes.

As seen in the Rise of Skywalker teaser trailer, there will be another desert locale. Via Vanity Fair, we get confirmed that it is not Tatooine nor Jakku, but a new planet named Pasaana which was shot in Wadi Rum valley in Jordan.

C-3PO (Anthony Daniels) is said to be getting a surprising role in Rise of Skywalker. This may partially be due the premature death of Carrie Fisher (Princess/General Leia).

C-3PO and BB-8 get some shade between takes

Seen in just a short flashback/vision scene in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the Knights of Ren, certainly looked intimidating. Well, we’re going to get to see more of those bad boys in The Rise of Skywalker.

The Knights of Ren take orders from director J.j. Abrams and stunt coordinator Eunice Huthart
Zori Bliss (Keri Russell), described as a “masked scoundrel” in the Thieves’ Quarter on snowy Kijimi
General Hux (Domhnall Gleeson) and Allegiant General Pryde (Richard E. Grant) aboard a Star Destroyer
The new droid D-O, Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac), BB-8, Chewbacca (Joonas Suotamo), and Lando Calrissian (Billy Dee Williams) aboard the Millennium Falcon.
Finn (John Boyega) and Jannah (Naomi Ackie) ride orbaks
Looks more like a scene from The Last Jedi, Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) stands beside his faithful droid R2-D2
Kylo Ren and Rey do battle with light sabers
The Aki-Aki are the natives of Pasaana (plus a rather strange alien behind the group)

Composer and conductor John Williams leads his orchestra playing to a scene with Leia also has a video about the photo shoot:

We’re sure there will be more Rise of Skywalker coverage to come.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will force its way into theaters December 20.
