While James Gunn may be back at the helm for Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3, the writer/director is still in charge of the new Suicide Squad film and he’s bringing in a familiar GotG face. Actor Michael Rooker is in talks to play King Shark in the DC Comics film.
Created by Karl Kesel in 1994, King Shark is a humanoid shark, whose father is the Shark God. King Shark’s augmented flesh provides protection against the pressures of the deep and physical attacks. His shark-like physiology includes teeth and claws, which are used as weapons, and gills that allow him to breathe underwater. He can swim at great speeds and is resistant to cold. King Shark has enhanced strength and endurance, and he can also regenerate lost bodily tissue.
Rooker previously played the role of Yondu/Mary Poppins in the first two Guardians of the Galaxy films. He also appeared in the Gunn-produced films The Belko Experiment and Brightburn. Other non-Gunn-related projects include Mallrats, The Walking Dead, JFK, and Cliffhanger.
