Dark Horse Comics has cancelled issues three and four of Astro Hustle, following allegations about writer Jai Nitz. The allegations come out in an article on the University of Kansas’s online magazine Her Campus, where former editor-in-chief Hannah Strader alleges Nitz made inappropriate advances towards her and unwanted physical contact, while he was a guest lecturer at the college.
Following the allegations, Nitz cancelled his appearance at Planet ComicCon in Kansas City last weekend. Dark Horse Comics released a statement to Valnet Inc Presents Comic Book Resources which states:
“Dark Horse takes all allegations seriously. While we were unable to prevent our distributor’s shipping of Astro Hustle #2, we are also suspending our professional ties with Jai Nitz.”
This is the second high-profile title cancelled after allegations of sexual misconduct came to light. DC Comics cancelled the Vertigo title Border Town last year after writer Eric M. Esquivel was accused of sexual assault and other abusive behavior.
