In an interview with Variety, Sony Pictures Entertainment Chairman Tony Vinciqueera and TV Chairman Mike Hopkins teased plans for the future of the Spider-Man cinematic universe.
“We have the next seven or eight years laid out as to what we’re going to do with that asset, and that will not only be on the film side — it’ll be on the TV side,” says Vinciquerra. “Our television group will have its own set of characters from within that universe that we will seek to develop.”
The studio is trying to figure out which of the 900 Spider-Man related characters are good enough to anchor a film or TV franchise on its own. The Comicspit Magic 8-Ball says, “Outlook not so good.”Sony currently has a Morbius The Living Vampire film in production starring Jared Leto, with plans for more including Silver Sable, Black Cat, Nightwatch, Kraven, Silk, Jackpot, and a Venom sequel. All the kids today are seriously jonesing for a Nightwatch movie.
