‘Shang-Chi’ Grabs Director Cretton

Though Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is keeping quiet about the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe until Avengers: Endgame plays out, that isn’t keeping movie websites from blabbing. Last December it was reported that the studio had snagged a writer and was fast-tracking a movie featuring the Master of Kung Fu and son of criminal mastermind [redacted due to licensing issues], Shang-Chi.

Now, even though Feige isn’t talking, it seems that things are hustling along as the Hollywood Reporter is saying that the film has picked up a director. That director is the Maui-born, indie filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton. Cretton has helmed several short films and documentary, and though has made a full length feature (I Am Not a Hipster), is probably most well-known for his short, Short Term 12, which won several awards. The film also stars Captain Marvel herself, Brie Larson.

The film has not yet been officially announced, so no release date is known.
