George R.R. Martin Turned Down Game Of Thrones Season 8 Cameo To Finally Write The Winds Of Winter

Luckily for fans of A Song Of Fire And Ice, George R.R. Martin has turned down a cameo in season 8 of Game of Thrones in order to buckle down on writing The Winds Of Winter, the sixth book in the series, of which he’s been working on since before the debut of the TV show. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Martin touched on how the showrunners David Benioff and D. B. Weiss invited him to appear in the series.

“David and Dan invited me to a cameo in one of the final episodes, which I was tempted to do,” Martin told EW. “But I didn’t think just for the sake of a cameo I could take the time to return to Belfast.”

Martin also pointed out that he filmed a cameo for the pilot episode, but he was cut out after reshoots.

For now, Martin is content to hunker down in New Mexico “working” on the sixth novel. He still plans a seventh in the series, but at this point, it’ll come out in 2064.
